Cable Wind

Power lines, ropes, garlands and chains swing in the wind: the whole span moves like a pendulum, pinned at both ends of the mesh. MM_KurinAsset, group Cable Wind. Vertex shader only.

Place a cable

  1. Drag BP_KurinCable (_Core/Blueprints) into the level: the actor pivot is the start of the cable.
  2. Drag the diamond End widget to where the cable ends. Move the actor to move the whole cable.
Setting (Details) What it does Typical value
End End point (diamond widget in the viewport)
Sag Percent Sag in the middle, % of the span length 2–5
Radius Cable thickness, cm 1–1.5

Several wires = several cables (Alt + drag copies one).

Parameters

Parameter / switch What it does Typical value
Use Cable Wind? Turns it on
Cable Swing (cm) How far the middle swings sideways 5–20 lines, 10–40 ropes
Cable Sag (cm) How deep the span hangs; sets the swing speed; set it close to the real sag 100–200
Cable Wind Strength / Direction Wind for the cable 1 / along X
Cable Lean / Bounce / Flutter Steady lean, up-down bounce, small waves along the span 0.3 / 2 / 1
Cable Gust Strength / Scale Gusts rolling along the wind 0.6 / 3000 cm
Cable Use Global Wind? Strength / speed / direction from MPC_KurinWind (same wind as foliage) on in levels with wind
Cable Pin From Vertex Color? Own cable mesh: pin by vertex colour R instead of UV U off

Tips

  • Own cable mesh: UV U from 0 at one end to 1 at the other, or paint vertex colour R (0 = pinned).
  • Works with Cloth Wind on the same material.
  • Set World Position Offset Disable Distance on the CableMesh component (6000 cm in BP_KurinCable).
