Edge Shape¶
Breaks the painted edge of a layer along its own shape: plaster chips off in flakes, moss grows in clumps, paint peels in patches. Without it the edge follows the soft vertex-color brush.
Where: Vertex Blend, layers R and G.
Setup¶
- Put the edge shape into the G channel of the layer's Height Map (R stays the height). White = the layer holds longest, black = it goes first.
- Height Map import: BC7, sRGB off.
- Tick Use Height Map? and Use Edge Shape Map? on the layer.
| Parameter / switch | What it does | Typical value |
|---|---|---|
| R / G - Use Edge Shape Map? | Turns it on (off = no cost) | |
| R / G - Edge Shape Strength | 0 = soft brush edge, 1 = edge fully follows the map | 1; 0.3–0.6 for a softer break |
Tips¶
- Paint with a soft brush: the map draws the edge, the brush only says where.
- Good shapes: cracks and flakes for plaster, clumps for moss, chips for paint. Grunge maps from Substance work well.
- A Height Map with an empty G channel hides the layer at the edge: leave the switch off for such layers.
